Details | No university course or departmental curriculum is perfect. Various conflicting perceptions of the requirements of a course mean that any curriculum will, inevitably, be the product of compromise. This in itself is not necessarily a bad thing; colleagues need to work together, and we benefit from listening to and learning from each other. More serious are the effects of time. A curriculum that once met the expectations and needs of students, teachers, and the wider society may with time become outdated and cease to do this as these expectations and needs change. The goal of this paper, then, is to consider afresh the needs of English Department students and to propose changes in the curriculum that may benefit these students. |
