概要	This article is an Optimality Theoretic analysis of the phonological processes behind the formation and contraction of Sino Japanese stems, or words comprised of Chinese roots that have been borrowed into Japanese. It also includes results of tests with native speaker tests that show stem contraction does not always occur as predicted.
