Details From the perspective of cognition mode of cognitive linguistics, the current study investigated whether defining clausal complexity through verb arguments works to gauge syntactic development of beginner-level Japanese learners of English. The results suggest that the verb-argument index is a sensitive measure of early syntactic development.
