概要	This study examines an online conversation project between universities in Japan and the US during a pandemic-affected semester. From a pedagogical perspective, the project was inspired by online intercultural exchange (O’Dowd, 2016). In principle, it was a practitioner-driven effort toward internationalization at home (Beelen & Jones, 2015) to facilitate intercultural contact experiences for students. From the perspective of research, the project analyzed Japanese as a lingua franca in virtual interactions in light of the local learner corpus approach (Seidlhofer, 2002). This study presents the project’s rationale and design and reviews relevant literature and essential terminology. Although small-scale, this type of exchange project proved promising as an internationalization effort and in local corpus research and pedagogy.
