概要	While pragmatics is an academic field that has been widely researched over the past four decades, there has been relatively little application of the knowledge gained through this research to the area of second language education, despite the fact that much of the research has direct implications for learners of foreign languages. As lead editor of this collection of 64 chapters, I initiated the topic, invited the co-editors to join me, and was involved in every stage of the production of this collection. The book is intended to be used as a teaching resource for language teachers, with each chapter introducing an aspect of pragmatics and demonstrating a way for the topic to be taught in class.
