Details This report investigates how a German and a Japanese partner university can learn from each other to improve their own range and quality of services/activities offered to their international exchange students. The two institutions have been trying to integrate incomers into their respective campuses and, above all in Japan, into their local communities. These efforts, made both within and out of the formal curricula, will be presented to highlight their similarities and, in particular, their differences. Testimonials from German students who studied at the Japanese partner university and vice versa will be added to evaluate the differing practices and point out potential areas for improvements in the incoming and related outgoing services provided. The possibilities of greater cross-cultural synergies and collaboration between the two universities within these efforts are discussed.
