Details This presentation describes our attempt to provide remote "virtual" contact situations by utilizing online meeting and community platforms, such as Slack, Remo, and Zoom, between universities in the US and Japan. These alternative contact situations are carefully designed to include both pedagogical benefits that student-participants can obtain and the research setting where teacher-researchers can gain interaction data. Potential benefits of the online mode of interaction in remote contact situations will be presented with the analysis results of online conversations and follow-up interviews.
