概要 | This paper looks at the DISTAR (Direct Instructional System for Teaching and Remediation) approach to reading. It first gives a brief history behind this reading approach followed by 6 areas which form the foundations of this program. These 6 areas are: Complexities of reading, Communications, Orthography, Pre-reading skills, Irregulars and Comprehension. Next, this paper will look at the techniques used to successfully teach these 6 components. Lastly, the DISTAR program clearly shows that although it is a very intensive teacher-centered approach to learning,it remains a very effective way to teach young children to read. |
