概要 | Mitochondria are multifunctional organelles involved not only in cellular energy production but also in various cellular functions. Mitochondria produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP) for cellular activity while they release reactive oxygen species (ROS) that induce oxidative damage. They contain both elongated and branched structures, and their morphology is regulated by active fusion and fission cycles, with conserved GTPases functioning to control the dynamics across species . In recent years, there has been growing investigation into the possibility that various functions of mitochondria are regulated by tightly controlled alterations in mitochondrial morphology through fusion and fission. |
