概要 | Hawaii is a popular destination for Japanese students studying English, but full immersion can be hindered by the strong Japanese presence. Historical ties between Japan and Hawaii are also often overlooked in study abroad programs. To address these gaps, a university in Hiroshima collaborated with a Honolulu-based institution to offer a course exploring Japanese immigration and its impact on Hawaiian society. Through lectures, discussions, and reflective projects, students engaged with historical and intercultural themes. Reflexive thematic analysis of their reflections revealed four key themes and showed a clear progression in understanding. The study highlights the value of integrating historical and intercultural education with reflective practices in pre-departure programs. |
