概要	This study summarizes findings from the Japan-US Online Conversation Project (2020–2021), which explored the use of Japanese as a lingua franca in virtual intercultural exchanges between L1 and non-L1 speakers. The project revealed the need to better prepare L1 speakers for intercultural communication through greater linguistic awareness and adaptability. It also highlighted the importance of supportive environments to address emotional and cognitive challenges for all participants. From a research perspective, the study calls for further exploration of speaker adjustments, third-space dynamics, and comparative analyses across other lingua franca contexts.
