概要	This paper examines the oral testing measures used to place a group of first year Japanese college students into three levels. The focus is on the kinds of linguistic components needed to be measured along with the grading scales most commonly used. In addition, it looks at the mechanics of carrying out a proper interview. Specifically,it means how an interviewer should conduct him or herself during the interview as well as the most appropriate kinds of questions to ask.
