Details | This paper aims to reconsider Denver’s role in Beloved and to examine how those who have never experienced slavery can re-experience it. The discussion begins with Denver’s acts of listening and how they have a great impact on others; she confronts them with the past. Furthermore, we see that in storytelling, she demonstrates her imagination, reliving the past. Additionally, considering Denver’s literacy, I explore the source of her imagination, which enables “rememory.” I also touch on the role of Beloved as it affects Denver. Lastly, I aim to shed light on a certain voiceless victim of slavery who has rarely been discussed. |
