Details | France has an immense number of literary awards, with the Goncourt Prize, established in 1903, being considered the first. This award, given to novels, remains the most prestigious in France. However, what was the original "authority" of literary awards, now often seen as "labels" for categorizing works? This paper examines the original intent of the Goncourt Prize as expressed in the will of the Goncourt brothers and analyzes the nature and impact of its authority, particularly in its early years. |
