Details | This paper focuses on sight translation and examines the cognitive process at play during the task. The cognitive process used for sight translation will be explored in three stages: segmentation, retention, and reorganisation. The segmentation stage includes two aspects: the segmentation of linguistic expressions, and the construction of translation units for each segment. During the retention stage, two types of information contribute to the construction of translation units for progressive translation. Finally, at the reorganisation stage, information from the translation unit is reorganised at a conceptual level. Describing all three stages, this study provides a cognitive model for sight translation as a basis for empirical or applied studies. |
