| 概要 | This study resolves the puzzle of why deverbal participle adjectives are generally prohibited from appearing in resultative complement positions, whereas adjectives like exhausted and ragged exceptionally occur. Specifically, we focus on the status of denominal -ed adjectives. Rather than refuting Carrier & Randall (1992), I complement and extend their insights by proposing that denominal -ed adjectives like ragged involve the adjectival passive head -ed directly selecting a nominal base. I further demonstrate that this proposal is supported by an analysis within the Lexical Semantic Framework (LSF) (Lieber 2004, 2016), following Ishida & Nagano (2026) and Ishida & Naya (2026). |
