Details	The Book of Margery Kempe のマージェリーの聖地巡礼を描写する部分が当時の巡礼ガイドに類似するとする Goodman (2002: 185) の考察に基づき、The Book of Margery Kempe と中英語期の他の巡礼ガイドや旅行記の communicative purposes を比較し、それらの類似点と相違点のいくつかを明らかにした。Bhatia (1993; 2005) に基づいて communicative purposes を比較することでジャンルを区別する分析方法を採用したが、Bhatia は広告等のビジネス文書を研究対象としていたため、分析対象となるテクストが比較的短く、各テクストの communicative purposes が比較的単純な構造を示すのに対して、本研究が対象とするテクストは非常に長く、複雑な communicative purposes の構造を考察しなければならなかった。結果として、Bhatia (1993; 2005) の手法だけでテクスト間の違いをに明確に示すことはできず、総合的な考察が必要となった。
