概要 | We have studied hydrothermal flow reactor systems for over 20 years. These systems were developed to know how biomolecules regarding the origin-of-life could have evolved under the extreme Earth environments. When we started this research, there was none or less effective research tool available. Although we used conventional batch reactor at the beginning, we have soon noticed the limitation of conventional batch reactors. By using batch reactor, rapid reactions in millisecond to second time scale cannot be monitored at such high temperature. The principle of the flow reactor is that a small volume of sample solution is to be injected to the stream of liquid flow in narrow tubing, which is heated to control at a certain temperature in advance, and then the sample is exposed in the high temperature reactor tubing in very short time scale. Thus, the rapid reactions in time range 0.002 – 200 sec can be monitored at temperature up to 400 oC. By using these systems, we measured successfully the stability of different biomolecules, the spontaneous elongation of oligopeptides with and without minerals, and the weak interactions (hydrophobic interaction and hydrogen bonding) of biomolecules (Life, 2017). |
