概要	In this presentation we argue that indirect ways of exchanging personal information are often more acceptable (and less offensive) than direct ways, closer to typical English use, and teachable from elementary levels.In addition, by focusing on principles for suitable and sensitive language use, we suggest that learners may gain a greater awareness of, and ability to use, the foreign language effectively in context. We present and report on the use of a classroom activity that is designed to introduce and give practice in doing this.
