Details Relational Adjectives (RAs) in English are known as attributive-only modifiers, whose function is to classify their modifying nouns. However, previous studies have pointed out that RAs can be used predicatively in certain contrastive contexts. This study pays particular attention to the classificatory function of RAs and aims to answer this question by arguing that contrast contributes to identifying the role of the qualia structures of the head nouns which should be specified by the stranded RAs, giving crucial hints to recover the deleted head nouns.
